Food Tour: Balamban Liempo

September 13, 2009 – Ten Cebu Bloggers Society members were given an exclusive opportunity to savor Balamban, Cebu’s uniquely grilledLiempo – without having to travel to the island’s southwest coast, that is. In Balamban, there is a unique way of grilling Liempos – local herbs, spices, and other secret ingredients makes it one of the best grilled Liempos around.

Balamban Liempo Food Corner was established less than two months ago (July 2009). The Food Corner is owned and managed by Jojo and Honey Vergara. The idea of putting up the business was motivated by the unique technique of grilling liempo in Balamban, Cebu – using several native herbs and secret ingredients. The humble beginnings of the business started in Jojo’s father’s residence in Mabolo, Cebu City. It was a very small business that grew in time and became a favorite among locals and regular customers in Balamban. In just barely 3 months, the distinctive flavor and aroma of Balamban Liempo became a word of mouth through out the city and is now considered one of the sought-after take out food.

Balamban Liempo’s first food corner is located at S. Cabahug corner Tres Borces St., Mabolo, Cebu City. Grilling of their delectable liempo starts 4-9PM Mondays to Sundays. Its second food corner branch just recently opened in Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City (directly in front of USP). Soon, Balamban Liempo will open its third branch in Hi-Way Mandaue near the North Atrium Mall. And by the end of this year a total of more than 5 stores will serve Balamban Liempo.

Balamban Liempo’s Mission:

  • To provide consumers the best tasting TAKE OUT meal in Cebu, which is affordable and convenient.
  • To provide consumers the experience of eating grilled liempo at its most unique and flavourful.

Balamban Liempo’s Vision:

  • To make Balamban Liempo the TAKE OUT destination of choice among Cebuanos, Visayans, and Filipinos nationwide.

My Take: The Liempo was awesome, mouth-watering, and totally lip-smacking. Its aroma was unique compared to some other grilled liempos I’ve tasted – thanks to the native herbs, spices and the secret ingredients which by the way we all failed to distinguish. The herbs, spices, and the secret ingredients were blended and minced thoroughly and gave the liempo its rich and flavorful taste. The meat was perfectly tender and will definitely appease one’s appetite.
