September 19, 2009 – The Cebu Bloggers Society was once again invited to another Food Tour, this time it’s for an original Cebu-based food chain – The Orange Brutus. Ten Cebu Bloggers exclusively went and tasted Orange Brutus’ meal varieties in Southgate Plaza, MEPZ II in Lapu-lapu City. Ms. Nina Kokseng-Misa, Executive Assistant (BFSI) and Ms. Leorain Ortega-Atillo, Marketing Head took time to introduce the chain’s newest and famous food offerings. Later on we all ate our hearts out!
Orange Brutus is home of today’s Best Sizzling Burgersteak and Fresh Fruit Shakes. Orange Brutus’ humble roots started as a simple Hamburger Chain in Cebu. Two young entrepreneurs prompted to start Orange Brutus in the 1980’s with the aspiration of making a statement in the Philippines’ food industry. Its first store opened in Colon, Cebu City in to what was then the newest department store, Fairmart. It offered charbroiled burgers and fruit shakes, which became the store’s best sellers – even today. In the course of Orange Brutus’ years, it continuously offered healthy and nutritious food.
“The burgers are charbroiled to ensure that meat products are low in cholesterol and are never pre-cooked. Only the freshest fruits go into the thirst-quenching fruit shakes. Moreover, only corn oil, which is one of the healthier oils, is used for all the fried items.”
Orange Brutus continues to innovate. They make sure NEW set of food products are introduced regularly to the market especially to its growing customer base. To date, Orange Brutus has 20 Food outlets throughout Cebu. And soon its 21st Food outlet will open at Gaisano Grand Mall Mactan in Basak, Lapu-lapu City.

MY TAKE: Like any other food chain Orange Brutus offers good food. I just knew that they do not pre-cook their food, which explains why it takes a while for your food to be served. That didn’t really occur to me before. The Budget Meals are perfect for the budget-conscious (like me); it already comes with a free iced tea or a softdrink whichever suits you. I’ve had the chance to eat their Chicken Steak (B2 Meal) and it was not was not what I was expecting. You see, I love chicken and it has to be tender and juicy enough and Orange Brutus’ Chicken Steak met my expectation, if not exceeded my expectation, – it was awesome! Their Quarter Meal, the Beef Teriyaki was fine though I am not a fan of beef products. Its taste was unique enough but I guess beef-lovers should be the one to judge that. The fruit shake (I had the Mango Shake, by the way) was great too and I tasted real mango unlike other fruit shakes available. And who could forget the Chocolate Monster? The cake was splendid for someone who doesn’t like chocolates. Well, I’m just hoping everything will be consistent on all Orange Brutus Outlets. We’ll soon enough.

I love Orange Brutus. It used to be my favorite fastfood in Davao City until they closed. That was about 15 years ago! I think it was the first time I tasted coleslaw on top of the burger and it was love at first taste.
About two years ago, I went to Cebu for a business trip and saw one in Mandaue City. I’m not sure if it was Mango Brutus though. But, you bet I went in and ordered 2 burgers! (I think it was Burger De Luxe.)
