We Conquered Boracay!

After weeks of preparation and anticipation on June 27, 2008 we conquered Boracay. Besting all other teams at work - we soared high at number 1.

Our flight was 10:30am Friday, July 27, 2008. We were on time for the flight’s check-in. Most of us just came from shift and we haven’t had any sleep at all but nevertheless we’re too excited to conquer the Island. The flight was not that boring with Cebu Pacific’s in-flight games and too bad I didn’t get any of the prices. Hahaha! Anyway, the flight took us to Caticlan Airport in just less than an hour. We took a tricycle to the Jetty Port and we were on our way to Boracay Island.

We settled our bags in Tirol and Tirol Beach Resort and went to D’ Talipapa for Lunch. Haha!

Friday night was a party.

15 Things.

There are a lot of changes in my life recently. I’m not even sure if I’m keeping up but I guess these changes are tolerable.

One. I just got new responsibilities in the office and I’m not sure if I can live up to the expectations. I know I can handle the responsibilities, but I need all the help I can get and I know my colleagues (especially my manager) are there to support me. I need to be more focused this time. Career is getting good, I know that for sure.

Two. I just got moved to the morning shift. Yeah, I kinda like it but I am still adjusting my body clock. I have been on the evening shift for almost 3 years now and suddenly my schedule goes back to normal working hours. I may need to take supplements this time, seriously.

Three. On my previous blog entry, a friend met a horrible accident while intoxicated. That made me realise that I need to slow *sigh* down my alcohol in-take.

Four. In relation to my morning shift. I haven’t smoked any cigarettelately. I’m quite busy on the reports. This is actually good. lols.

Five. I’m nose-bleeding from a friend’s bragging sessions about her so-called career. Worse - It’s almost on a daily basis.

Six. Cebu’s temperature is getting into my nerves.

Seven. I haven’t been to the beach for almost 2 weeks now. By the way, I love the beach just recently. I used to hate beaches.

Eight. I’m torn between our company summer outing and our team’s beach outing and what’s bad about the two - they’re both on the same dates.

Nine. I miss my family.

Ten. My Internet connection at home is down, 2 days now.

Eleven. I need to pay my bills or else…

Twelve. I need to save more and get a decent -ahem- laptop this time.

Thirteen. I need to reconsider the option to transfer to a new crib. My current crib is getting crowded.

Fourteen. I think, I need a love life. lols.

Fifteen. I want to be really really HAPPY. :)

That’s all.

Update. Bum. Bored.

I’m a bum for two weeks now. I’m on vacation leave. Two weeks. Take that!

On this new domain. I didn’t expect that transferring domains would be such a hassle. It took me more than 3 days tweaking and I still haven’t figured out everything. Not to mention the problem with my host. My site seems to be really slow and so does my cpanel. My PC is having an Attitude Problem too. I’m not even done tweaking my other domain mabitona.com. Well, I may just have to take it slowly. :D

Work. I still have a lot of catching up to do at work. I’m also kinda happy coz I’d be transferred to the morning shift - yay! Normal Life! lols. There have been changes in the office and i’ll blog about it soon.

Beach. I still have a lot of beach to conquer this summer. I’m almost halfway on my itinerary. :P .

Beer. I need to slow down on my intake.

Here. Sunkissed. Drunk.

Beejing Beer

Camotes Reloaded.

A week after escaping to Camotes Island, there I was again. But I was on another island. You see Camotes Islands consists of 3 main islands - Poro, Pilar and San Francisco. I was in San Francisco, this time. Right after my friday’s shift at work Bjorn, Yellie, Yasmin, Clancy and yours truly took the first fast craft to Camotes at 9am. It was an uneventful 2 hour trip. The AC was not all working, hot. hot. hot. It was almost 12 noon when we arrived at Sitio Santiago and we’re immediately ushered by our dear friend Oslec to our reserved room. We had a great lunch at Santiago Bay Beach Resort. An hour later we went back to our rooms and took some rest. We all decided to take a tour around the island. It was 7pm when we’re back to our rooms and had dinner. By 10pm we’re heading off to the beach front to start drinking what’s supposed to be drank. lol. Yeah Beach and Beer. We had Beer and Ice Cube scarcity so we called it a night by 3am.

The next day was a Sunday. The breakfast was good. We trekked the sides of a very treacherous cliff just to invade a very secluded portion of the island but the sea current was strong enough and all our efforts were lost. We spent most of the first half the day soaking up the sun. The Lunch was great by 2pm. It was already low tide so we decided to trek again back to the secluded portion of the bay. It was a 15minute walk trough very sharp rocks and last we arrived, and guess what? that part of the beach turned out to be a local cemetery! We had fun though. It was 5pm when we all decided to start the videoke and beer match. The beer was totally -ahem- excellent, not to mention the videoke. lolz. We called it a night 1am.

Monday, we’re back to reality :(

For the record, this is one trip I wouldn’t forget. The laughter, the fun, the beer, the videoke, the adventure, the near-death experience of a friend, the soaking up the sun, the sunburn, and the camwhorage are definitely not worth forgetting.

To Oslec: Thanks for everything. I thought the weekend wouldn’t be really fun but oh well, I was wrong. I had so much fun.

To Bjorn: Our trips together are worth remembering. Thanks for the company. There’d be no fun without you around.

To Yellie: We have the same wavelength. I am glad to have spent a weekend with you. “Naleke ko geng!”

To Yasmin: You are one great friend. I thought we wouldn’t get along so well but again I was wrong. I’m looking forward to our next escape. “Shot sa, Shot sa!”

To Clancy: You are one true friend. Thank you for being so patient. I thought you know how to swim?

Before I get teary eyed here. lolz. Lemme share some camwhorage:

Summer 2008: part 1

I started the Summer of this year by heading off to an Island known for it’s white sands, crystal blue waters and fresh seafoods - Bantayan Island. The Bantayan Island, as far as I’ve known is the only island (aside from Boracay) celebrates the holy week partying on the beach front. It is also known for having been allowed by the Vatican for its people to eat meat during the lenten season. A brief history of the Island is etched somewhere in their centuries-old church. Well, the trip was dated March 1-3 and everyone had a great time.

A little less than 2 weeks later, we were headed off to a beach on the southwestern side of Cebu - Moalboal. Although the sand is not as fine as the one from Bantayan but the weekend was still great.

i just realized…

Well, I’m moving. I’ve just realized to move out. I’m moving out from this domain. I’m gonna launch it next week. wohooo!

Anyway, I’m currently hooked into this song…

Well, this Saturday… Camotes Islands… here I come! Beach again…

March: Beach & Beer. Work & Bitch.

I’d consider March as one of my greatest this year. I used to hate the beach, the sand and the sun but I’ve grown to love them, every single of it! I started March beach hopping, sunbathing and getting drunk in Bantayan Island. I couldn’t believe to have survive the sun for 3 agonizing hours without sunblock protection. We were on the beach front intoxicating ourselves from 7-10am. Beach and Beer is a perfect match. Two weeks later I was, again, in Moalboal getting drunk under the summer sun. Worse, I still haven’t recovered from my sunburn and there I was sunbathing with beer in one hand. So far, I still have a week to go before I complete the list of beach itinerary. Camotes Island, here I come. I’m crossing my fingers coz I still don’t have word of it is a GO. The month wouldn’t be really complete without my friends and colleagues. I’m sure there’ll be more surprises this summer and I couldn’t wait for them. All I could say is “Beach and Beer is a Perfect Match!” haha.

As for work stuff I’m about to throw-up but I can still manage. So they say “You can never please everybody” and I agree. Working for an Outsourcing Company is tough, Politics and Predators come hand in hand. We should know how to play the cards right or else we get eaten by predators. I’m still a newbie when it comes to playing the cards right but I guess I’m learning quite fast. Lol. Some of my colleagues are grazing off to greener fields but I’m still waiting for more signs if I’ll join the herd. I’m about to falter my momentum at work, I’m almost ready to throw-up but I know this too will pass. I am hanging on. I still believe in the company - but for how long? lol. As of now, what matters most would be the present. Let me reiterate, I am holding on. Let me also share a quite “good to know” article from www.fiveoclockclub.com.

“According to Richard Bayer, Ph.D., chief operating officer of The Five O’Clock Club (www.fiveoclockclub.com), a national career-counseling network based in New York City, you would be smart to leave before you get sacked, or you lose your sanity, or both.

Over the years, Bayer has compiled a list of eight signals that usually mean your job is in jeopardy. “If you’ve noticed three or more of the warning signs, it’s time to update your resume and start job hunting,” he says.

Check this out.

1. You don’t fit in. Your values don’t match the company’s. If your colleagues are “dishonest and focused on getting ahead regardless of legal or moral barriers,” Bayer says, it’s time to quit before an Enron-style scandal sinks the ship.

2. Your boss doesn’t like you and you don’t like him or her. If your boss never asks your opinion, and never wants to chat or have lunch with you, and if you disagree with her agenda and dislike her style, your days are numbered. Adds Bayer: “If you’ve ever done something that undermined your boss, you might as well get out now.”

3. Your peers don’t like you. Feeling isolated, gossiped about, and excluded from the inner workings of the organization is a very bad sign, as is feeling that you’re not part of the team and wouldn’t socialize with your colleagues even if they asked you.

4. You don’t get assignments that demonstrate the full range of your abilities. “Watching all the good assignments go to others, while you’re given the ones that play to your weaknesses or are beneath your professional level, should tell you something,” says Bayer. Likewise, if it seems the boss doesn’t trust your judgment, you’re in trouble.

5. You always get called upon to do the “grunt work.” Everybody has to take on a dull or routine task now and then, but if you are constantly being singled out to do the work no one else wants, alarm bells should ring.

6. You are excluded from meetings your peers are invited to. Sound familiar? If it’s painfully clear that your ideas aren’t valued, why stick around?

7. Everyone on your level has an office. You have a cubicle in the hallway. Bayer notes that, whatever your title, your digs can speak volumes about your real status in the organization. If your peers have offices with windows and you’re asked to move into a broom closet - no matter what the official explanation - start cleaning out your desk.

8. You dread going to work and feel like you’re developing an ulcer. Ah, here’s yet another of your symptoms, and a particularly nasty one at that.

“If the idea of going to the office makes you anxious or physically sick, and you’re counting the hours from the time you arrive until the second you can leave, it’s time to move on,” says Bayer. Do it before you do serious damage to your health, or get so demoralized that you can’t be upbeat in job interviews, or both. Once things have deteriorated to this point, being perceived as a job hopper should be the least of your worries. Get out while you still can.”

So much for that….I’m enjoying Summer.
