Alright, this should be a very quick entry. Though I haven’t been really active on the blogosphere lately but I managed to take at least a few minutes today to submit my nominations for 4th installment of Ms. Janette Toral’s Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs writing project. I know today is the last day too!

2010 has been a busy year for me and though I have been too active over at twitter, I haven’t forgotten to blog hop and follow some new and interesting blogs.

Dila Falls, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon

Dila Falls is another nature’s hidden wealth in the lush green province of Bukidnon. I remember back in high school when we decided to take an adventure over its rapid waterfalls and I almost lost my slippers on its rapids. I only got to visit this magnificent waterfalls twice and I think it’s already high time for me to visit the place again. I wonder though what Dila Falls looks like today. I guess, it’s time for my to find out – another bullet on my itinerary.

Dila Falls is located in the municipality of Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. It is surrounded by lush green vegetation making its rapids an almost ice-cold water. Dila Falls is famous for its granite rocks and boulders which pleasantly blend in the water and its serene atmosphere.

Dila Falls is also a famous destination for adventure and recreation. Trekking towards Dila Falls is never easy, especially for beginners, as it provides tricky hike in the midst of Impasug-ong’s protected forest.

If you visit Bukidnon, add Dila Falls into your itinerary.

Monastery of Transfiguration in Malaybalay City

A few hours ago as I was browsing websites on my mobile phone I came across a few professionally-taken photos of a pyramid-shaped building. At first, I thought it was a photo of another architectural genius of some foreign country but the more I look and studied the photos it dawned on me that it was a photo of my home’s Monastery of Transfiguration.

Oh well, the last time I visited the monastery was a few years ago and I think it’s another bullet added into my must-visit places in Bukidnon. Whew! This list is getting longer and I think this calls for a BREAK from work, seriously.

The Monastery of Transfiguration is located in baranggay San Jose, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. The church of the Monastery of Transfiguration is built on heavy lime blocks situated on the slopes of baranggay San Jose. The monastery was designed by a National Artist for Architecture, Leandro Locsin. The church was inaugurated and blessed on August 6, 1983. The first Filipino Abbott, Fr. Eduardo Africa and former Malaybalay bishop Gaudencio Rosales led the inauguration 27 years ago.

The surrounding hills are planted with rice, corn, and soya beans. The rest of the green slopes are also planted with the infamous Monk’s Blend Premium Coffee. This coffee is a must-try when you visit the monastery. Also, a two-story museum houses the 50-piece vestment used during the Philippine Centennial celebration in 1998.

Here’s my suggestion when you’re there – One, take a lot of photos – the surrounding hills are awesome to the eye. Two, pray inside the pyramid-shaped church and see its unique stone altar. Three, ask someone to take you to a clear view of a cascading waterfall at the back of the monastery grounds. Four, buy the Monk’s Blend Premium Coffee!

I guess, I really have to visit the place soon. I am longing to see Bukidnon and its finest.

Sumilao, Bukidnon’s Alalum Falls

Everytime I go home to my sweet Bukidnon I make it a point to sit on the left side of the bus – wondering why? You see, if you’ve been to Bukidnon with your eyes wide open on the entire trip you should never be able to miss this spectacular falls in Kisolon, Sumilao, Bukidnon. If you’re on your way to Bukidnon’s capital – Malaybalay City, it is on your left and it’ll be on your right when you’re going up to Cagayan de Oro City.

Alalum falls is a 148-feet drop of cascading water. The falls is located less than a kilometer away from Sumilao, Bukidnon’s Municipal Hall and Plaza. A view deck is built for tourists and locals alike for an easy access to its breathtaking water cascade. Alalum falls is also famous for its lush green scenery making it more stunning when the sun’s rays are filtered through the lush green trees and it’s light reflecting on its dancing waters.

A few years ago we used to come here and spend the day chit-chatting with friends. Now, I wonder how this falls look like. I am hoping that Alalum falls will still be a picture’s worth after all these years. This is definitely a must-see when you’re in Bukidnon.

Now that I have a good camera, I’m adding Alalum falls to my growing list of the must-see and must-visit spots in Bukidnon.

SM City Cebu launches Eco Bag for 2010

August 6, 2010 – SM City Cebu unveiled 4 new designs of its Eco Bag Project. The Eco Bag Project aims to help conserve and save Mother Earth’s resources. The 4 new designs will help fund efforts to help preserve, conserve, and produce environment-friendly initiatives.

The 4 new designs will eventually replace the Green Eco Bag that’s already been introduced to the market. Proceeds of the 35php Eco Bag will fund efforts and initiatives to help conserve Earth’s resources.

Here are the bags we all can choose from:

Spark Eco Bag – This orange-inspired Eco Bag represents Fire. Proceeds from the Spark Eco Bag will go a long way to fund initiatives in conserving and producing Earth-safe energy.

Renew Eco Bag – This white-inspired Eco Bag represents Earth. Proceeds from the Renew Eco Bag will fund efforts on recycling waste materials.

Breathe Eco Bag – This light-blue-inspired Eco Bag represents the Air we breathe. Proceeds from the Breathe Eco Bag will help fund projects in cleaning the air from pollution.

Flow Eco Bag – This blue-inspired Eco Bag represents Water. Proceeds from the Flow Eco Bag will fund projects in conserving Earth’s water resources.

These bags are only worth 35php. This small amount will go a long way in returning the favor our Mother Earth has given us. It’s never too late to start caring for our environment, what better day to start is NOW!

Missing Home

Okay, the title says it all. Yes, I badly miss home and though the last time I was there was last May to cover the elections but the time spent wasn’t really what we all call as “staying at home.”

Oh well, I just missed everything at home. I miss the laid-back life in the province, I miss my mom’s home-cooked meals, I miss watching TV the whole day and just do nothing but eat and sleep, I miss playing with my pitbulls, yes – I miss everything, need I say more?

This afternoon right after watching Angelina Jolie’s Salt I had the chance to pass by a plant show in SM City Cebu which made me think how’s our little garden at home (which made me miss my home again!). You see, I used to help my mom take care of a variety of plans, in fact during the weekends I used to play around arranging pots and planters and make them nicer to look at. I can still remember how I broke a huge planter almost right on top of my brother’s head when I was carrying them over a window. The last time I went home I saw some our window box planters lying unattended at the far end of our backyard. Oh well, I should include putting that decorative container back up the next time I’m going home.

Sundays at home are also what I’ve been missing. You see, I used to be the one doing the grocers every sunday and that includes going to an open market for some of the freshest vegetables around. Whew! I miss bargaining for the final price. I used to be good at that too!

I miss home and I think I need to be home soon but I guess my current state at work poses as a challenge. Oh wait, I can’t go home coz I invited my family to spend a weekend here in Cebu this September and because I was drunk when I invited them, I said it’ll be an all-expense-paid-trip courtesy of yours truly. Now the question is, where in the world should I get the finances? If only I could take it back and pretend it did not happen or I should start looking for a part time job, say – gardening? lawn mowing? need help here guys! LOL.

Palamantasan: Grade School Kids Unite for Good Nutrition

One fine Saturday in July I had the chance to cover an event at the Lapu-Lapu City Elementary School which made me reminisce my good old grade school days. You see, back in my grade school days I used to perform on stage during programs and ceremonies. I was a performer back then but I guess I changed. LOL. Seeing grade schoolers performing their hearts out on stage made the event more fun and colourful. The kids play a great role on the country’s future. Therefore, as adults, we shape them to be their best.

In a developing country like ours, it is a fact that most of our school children do not get the proper nutrition at home and at school. Back in my elementary days we used to have Nutrition Feeding Programs and Nutrition Education Drives to further thrust the awareness of everyone, not just the kids, on how important good nutrition is. Palamantasan is a unique and one-of-a-kind inter-school competition among grade schoolers focusing on nutrition education. This Nutrition Education drive is brought to us by the country’s most-loved cheese – Kraft Cheez Whiz and the Department of Education.

The event also showcased several competitions which showed the Kids’ artistry and brilliance. Competition categories are as follows: Jarchitecture, Essay Writing Contest, Cheering Competition, Sandwich Art, and Sabayang Bigkas. Rewinding to my grade school days, I used to join and excel in writing contests but somehow along the way I lost my heart in writing. Blogging though is different. Tehee! Anyway, I used to dance for the cheering competitions too even well after grade school. Activities like these are an awesome avenue for kids to show a friendly competition.

Lapu-Lapu Central Elementary School’s Principal she said “This is an avenue for schools to showcase their grade school kids’ talents.” Indeed, Palamantasan ng Sarap is an excellent way of delivering the message – The Importance of Good Nutrition. Well, I’d have to give kudos to the Department of Education and Kraft Cheez Whiz for coming up with this good nutrition initiative. This initiative should drive everyone to take part in good and healthy nutrition, starting of course with the kids. You see, schools are our second home and what better way to start good health is at home.

Now, this initiative is not only limited for schools and grade schoolers because everyone will have an opportunity to Make A Pledge just by visiting the Palamantasan ng Sarap website’s Pledge Tree. The Pledge Tree is a way for everyone to show and take part in spreading the importance of good health and nutrition.

Oh well, the moment I received the invite I thought it’ll be for press launch but it was refreshing to know that we (the Cebu Bloggers) will be covering an event driving a good health and nutrition initiative. On that same Saturday, a school in Davao also simultaneously had their Palamantasan ng Sarap. It was an event filled with colors and the presentations were well-thought-of. It was fun seeing kids of all ages participating and singing to the tune Palamantasan ng Sarap (which, by the way, can be heard on the Palamantasan Website).

In the end, we were all smiles after witnessing the grade schoolers’ awesome and raw talents.

I admit I am a Social Media freak. You see, the moment I had my first taste of the internet years ago I knew that I’d be hooked indefinitely. I have signed up to a lot of networking sites, created social networking accounts, and of course joined online causes. Online Advocacy, that is. Last year at the height of the Philippines’ Tropical Storm “Ondoy” I took advantage of my social media presence to send help to individuals and families.
