May 22, 2010 – Bloggers from all over the Philippine archipelago will once again convene for the very first Cebu Blog Camp: Blogging, Expressions, and Opportunities.

Cebu Blog Camp is an event that focuses on honing the skills of bloggers offline. This event will gather a large number of bloggers all over Cebu to discuss the latest developments on the Web, Search engines, and making money online.

Cebu Blog Camp also aims to help those just beginning in their blog journey by giving them the basics of blogging. Our Blog Camp will comprise of prominent speakers of the different fields of blogging.

Through this event one can gain a learning experience on the different opportunities online. Apart from the discussions, one may be able to form a concrete network offline as one can finally meet the other bloggers of the community in Cebu.

Random Rants on Blogging

You see, I never took blogging really seriously. It’s been years since I started to blog. It used to be just an avenue for my rants and whines – which of course changed along the years. I transferred from one platform to another; from free platforms to paid hosting. It was also just hobby to kill time but now it’s a passion. Along the years of blogging I’ve come to follow a few good-to-read blogs and met new friends online and offline. I never even really thought of monetizing and optimizing my blog (though I have visitors referred from search engines) but when I got my first pay out from a few ad units I’ve placed that’s when it all changed; I started to accept write-ups and reviews in exchange for a few dollars BUT it decreased my PageRank plus the traffic shrank – and that’s when I started to look into the other direction.

Optimizing vs. Monetizing

Most of my SEO Expert friends say Optimizing and Monetizing goes hand in hand – this I agree. But you see, in my stand point, Optimizing is leaning towards the blog content while Monetizing is leaning towards traffic and subsequently revenue generation. I guess we all agree that most blogsites these days are overly monetized rather than optimized. I visited a blogsite recently and I would say content was pretty okay but the site is cluttered with adverts and links. I almost couldn’t recognize which is an entry and which is an advert. The good side of me prevented me from commenting – “You’re an Adwhore!” Sorry for the lack of decency.

Well, some might criticize me for thinking out loud but you see this is true! Besides, I have every right to say so because: first – this is my blog; second – I pay for my hosting and doman; and third – I haven’t dropped blog names. Let me also say sorry to those who might have been affected to what I shared above. Let me point out again – I haven’t dropped any names here. So, I guess everyone shouldn’t make a fuss on this entry. LOL. I wouldn’t really blame these adwhores for being such because given the current economic condition - every moolah is worth to earn – and save, for that matter.

I have to admit I am not really good on either Optimizing or Monetizing but I must say – “Content is still the King.” Decipher that.

Moving on to a lighter note, let me say “Cheers!” to my Cebu Bloggers Society Family. We’ve come a long way from just a group of less than 10 bloggers to a society of more than 50 members – and that’s just in a year’s time.

We’ve already made a mark in Cebu’s New Media, let’s add more. And yeah – I just purchased a new domain for us. Let’s make it as another avenue of our Attitude Problem.

Your Facebook Mishaps

I am Facebook addict. I won’t deny that. I can’t exactly recall when I signed up for Facebook but I think it’s more than 2 years. Give or take, I must have signed-up way back in 2006. Again, I am not sure okay!?

You see, lately I have been too engrossed updating my statuses on all social networking sites, making sure all my followers know what I’m thinking and doing at the moment. LOL – as if I have followers. Stalkers maybe. A few weeks ago, it hit me – my life has been too transparent online and everybody, I quote “everybody”, knows what I’m doing and that’s where my Facebook Disaster came in.

I need not have to blog what really happened but let me point out some of the scenarios people like I am might reconsider before updating their status messages.

(Note: For the purpose entertainment, (LOL) names are fictional)

OversTransparency – Dhonald called-in sick and spent the day daydreaming on a nearby beach resort while updating his Facebook Status. The next day, his supervisor confronted him with his status message “Enjoying the sun and the beach!” as evidence that he wasn’t really ill. It caused him embarassment and a reprimand in front of his colleagues.

How not to be Overtransparent? – With Facebook’s feature of suggesting friends – it’s uncommon for most to not to have accepted or added ‘as a friend’ their colleagues – especially their bosses. For Dhonald’s case, he can actually change that. With Facebook’s Friend Lists (a new feature in Facebook), Dhonald can organize his Facebook Friends into Lists and designate each group to different levels of access into his Facebook information. Once he has organized all of his friends into lists he can then specify how much of his information can be seen by each his Friend List. To do this, he just have to edit and customize his Facebook Privacy Settings.

Your Full Physical Street Address – Jhona recently broke up with her long time boyfriend, moved away to another city and got a new job. After a few months of communication blackout her ex-boyfriend showed up at her front door asking for a second chance. When she asked how he’d find her his reply was – Facebook Profile.

How to be invisible to some? – Just like Dhonald’s case, Jhona wasn’t able to fully control to who her information is accessible. Jhona has the option to put her address and profile information in private. The controls are still located in one’s Privacy Settings under the Profile option. On Jhona’s profile option, she can find items in her profile that she can turn on and off to each of her Friend Lists.

Your very own Stalker – Jhenny is scared over wall posts being left by someone she mistakenly added as a friend. Jenny don’t like to delete and create a new Facebook account but she wants to remove her stalker from seeing her information, wall posts, statuses, and the likes however she also wants to have her account discoverable only to the people she allows.

How not to be stalked? – Just like Dhonald and Jhona’s situation, she can add her possible stalker to a Limited Profile List. She can even remove or block her stalker – all she has to do is go to her stalker’s profile and click on the link – Remove from Friends option. Now if the stalker insists in adding Jenny again, this time she can block the stalker altogether by typing his/her name in the search box on the privacy page and click on Block Person next to her stalker’s name.

Your Compromising Photos – Cheryl was in a party last weekend. She was already tipsy while posing for a friend’s DSLR. After a couple of days she found out the photos were uploaded and got tagged on several photos. She hated the photos.

How not to be compromised? – Everybody knows we can’t delete someone else’s uploaded photos. You can only do this by asking the person who uploaded them. It’s very simple not to have your compromising photos show on your “View Photos of Me.” All Cheryl has to do is to find the photos she hates and click on the remove tag next to her name. It’s that simple.

Oh well, I could go on and on but I guess my point is clear – we have to be really careful before clicking on the Update link. Believe me.

I just recently downloaded the first beta of Safari 4 for Windows and consumed approximately 109MB of my almost-full disk space. The internet-freak that I am found this new browser - simply amazing.

Top Sites

Its new Top Sites feature displays your most visited porn sites, uhm I mean, websites or favorites. You can even set your favorite sites as a home page or even the page you’ll see everytime a new tab is created. Though we can see this feature in Google Chrome but what’s amazing here is – Safar4 displays them in 3D! You can even re-arrange the sites just like your amazing iPhone. If you’ll see blue star on your Top Sites, it actually means the site has been updated since the last time you browsed through it.

Cover Flow

The Cover Flow feature of Safari 4 lets flick through recent web pages as you do in your iTunes. Hurrah!

Full History Search

The Full History Search feature allows you to search for pages you’ve been to. Safari 4 digs into text of your browsing history, based on your typed word or phrase and presents you with a list of possible or related websites. With Safari 4′s Full Page Zoom feature you can Zoom in and Zoom out without really having to worry on page layout or quality distortions.

Though I don’t know if it’s faster than the rest of the browsers out there but I guess it’s kinda fast for my standards. Safari 4 supports HTML 5 which allows web applications to store information locally even without web connection – pretty cool huh!?

With Safari’s new unveiled features Mozilla and Microsoft would really need to step-up in this Browser’s War.

It’s time of the year again to promote the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs. This time it’ll be for the year 2009. This is the 3rd installment of Ms. Janette Toral‘s writing project which promote new and emerging blogs that are influencing readers and followers alike on the web.

Palm Pre rivals the iPhone

Being a gadget fan and an ex-Sprint-Nextel representative, I was kinda hyped-up with Sprint-Nextel’s unveiling of its new product – The Palm Inc’s Pre or widely known as the Palm Pre. This new smart-phone, I believe, is Palm’s strategy to scratch back their lost Market share to Apple’s iPhone and the Blackberry.

In the past few weeks that I have been monitoring the web about this new smart-phone, it has received great reviews. I even read that Palm Pre is considered a fundamental product for both Sprint-Nextel and Palm Inc.

My friends from the states told me that crowds were gathered over at Sprint Stores early Saturday morning, June 06, 2009. Despite the economic turndown most people are still investing into new gadgets. Great marketing strategy from both Sprint-Nextel and Palm, I’d say.

It was said that the newly released Palm Pre was the most talked about gadget during January’s Consumer Electronic Show. The Palm Pre is currently running the new webOS Operating System. It has been said as well that the new platform for mobile has been in the works since June 2007.

Sprint-Nextel’s venture on the Palm Pre could win back customers who defected to rival networks such as AT&T and Verizon Wireless.

Unlike the iPhone, Palm Pre’s tiny keyboard may capture consumers who find it hard to type a text into its virtual touchscreen keypads. Another major difference, between the Pre and iPhone, is Pre can run multiple applications concurrently and switch on them easily.

Rebooted iBeejing.com | Get A Life!

For the past couple of months this blog has been in hibernation not because I don’t have anything to blog about but rather blogging has been the least of my priorities. Work seems to have eaten most of my time. Not to mention the endless issues that seem to have grown out from nowhere. Now, that I have found some answers to the question I have been asking personally, I am shifting gears. My priorities are changed – thanks to the book from Mitch Albom.

Now that I have fully recovered myself I am compelled to do one thing – blogging. I was thinking to start from scratch but I guess it’s better to start where I’ve left off. Besides I don’t want to have an N/A as my PageRank, which I guess it already is.

To formally open the rebirth of my blog let me outline a few changes.

One . iBeejing.com has now been moved to a new server with what they call as "No Downtime Architecture." Blah blah! But it took me a few weeks to resolve an issue with my host. I even had to argue with their *ahem* incompetent technical support, who does not even know how to speak understandable English.

Two . I have new theme courtesy of the RevolutionThemes. I’ve downloaded the complete set of the revolution theme package and decided to use the CodeBlue – it has this great minimalist layout and I like it. Need I say more?

Three . This blog will no longer be featuring most of my emotions. I hope this’ll make everyone happy. Another blog has been setup solely for the purpose of venting out what I’m thinking and feeling. Only a select few bloggers and friends will have access to it.

Four . I am going to use IP Deny so some people won’t be able to view any of my blogs.

Five . I am going to exert more effort on optimizing this blog. Optimizing meaning web visibility and not for the moolah – I guess I still have a lot of that.

Six . I will do my best to create a sensible entry a week. I hope work wouldn’t get in the way.

Seven . I have deleted a few blog urls from my blogroll. So, please let me know if you’d like to have your urls on my either my sidebars or the links page.

Woot! These are just few of the changes, More will come.

I am one of the 68.

Monday, October 6, 2008 – just 9 days before I’d turn a year older, I won the Nuffnang 68 Bloggers Contest. After a month of waiting, the official contest winners were announced through their website.

Oh well, I was kinda busy coaching an agent when Debbie sent me a message saying I won the contest. My instinct told me to wrap up the coaching session and check if there’s a pingback on my site but I guess my work ethics were too hard to beat that time so I was only able to check the pingback after almost 45 minutes later. Yay! I couldn’t believe my eyes as my site’s name appeared 3rd on all the 68. I don’t know what that really mean but all the same – I am happy to be one of the select 68 Bloggers!

Way to go Nuffnang… you rock… and I too rock! LOL
