These two events will gather bloggers from all over Visayas, invited guests from Luzon and expert speakers from different fields. Cebu Blog Camp 2010 is an event organized by a group of Cebu Bloggers.

Cebu Blog Camp is an event that focuses on honing the skills of bloggers offline. This event will gather a large number of bloggers all over Cebu to discuss the latest developments on the Web, Search engines, and making money online.

Cebu Blog Camp also aims to help those just beginning in their blog journey by giving them the  basics of blogging. Our Blog Camp will comprise of prominent speakers of the different fields of blogging.

October 4, 2009 – Less than 12 hours from the recently concluded and successful Aboitizland Community Tour I had to wake up and get ready for an early 5k run. Oh well, not just any ordinary fun run but it’s for the benefit of the PCS-CEV Breast Clinic Outreach Program (Philippine College of Surgeons – Cebu-Eastern Visayas Chapter). Dubbed as the Pink October Run; it featured 3 courses – 3K, 5K, and 10K plus an amazing 3-flyover run challenge. The course started and ended at the Ayala Center Cebu’s The Terraces.

It was a great Sunday for everyone, I guess. The weather was cooperating with the sun smiling gently over Metro Cebu. Setting the mood of the runners, a quick dance warm-up was geared up in tune of  the song “Insomnia” by Craig David (if my memory serves me right). It was already a few minutes past 6 in the morning when everyone started to run. I, on the other hand, was busy running through my 5K-run course with the iPod banging loudly into my ears. It didn’t take long for me to forget that I have friends running too! haha! Sorry guys!

Well, everyone got back to the finish line safe and sound – I guess. And I forgot how many minutes it took me to finish the course – damn, oops sorry! The awarding ceremony was held inside the Ayala Center Cebu’s Terraces coupled with free food and beverages for the runners. Awards were given to the Top 3 male and female runners in the 10K and 5K runs. Special Awards were also given to the Top 3 runners in the 10K Doctor’s category.

I, uh I mean, we all finished our respective courses. Cheers to everyone who participated…until the next run.

The Department of Languages and Literature (DOLL) of The University of San Carlos in partnership with the English Majors Association (EMA) will be staging “My Fair Lady” which is a play based on George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion”. This will be an opportunity for the viewers to look into the socio-cultural and historical values portrayed in the story.

People who share their blessings without expecting anything in return. People who has passion to help. Though I am not really blessed with such a heart, I’ve always wanted to be someone who makes a difference.

You see, my mom is an educator. She has taught me a lot of things in life. She has taught me the value of sharing one’s blessing. She doesn’t even have qualms going home late from school. Despite my mom’s exhaustion after a day in school, I could still see the contentment plastered on her face.

The idea of sharing one’s blessing and knowledge, for that matter, is very noble. Oh well, teaching is a very noble job.

In the few years I’ve been in Cebu only a handful organizations I’ve known offers educational assistance to poor students in the mountaineous barangays and depressed areas in Cebu. One of which is the Tsinelas Association Inc.

TSINELAS ASSOCIATION INC.

TSINELAS ASSOCIATION INC. is a non-government, non-stock, non-profit organization that gives educational assistance to poor students in mountain barangays and depressed areas in Cebu. 

VISION

TSINELAS envisions a just and humane society where the basic right to education is upheld and where poverty is not a hindrance to learning. It is a society where those who have more in life help those who have less, and where everyone works for the common good.

MISSION

TSINELAS commits to help in the educational formation of poor students, in the ongoing formation of those responsible for their education, and in ensuring an environment that is conducive to learning.

OBJECTIVES

1. To spend for the students’ basic school needs, like tuition, school fees, uniforms and school supplies.
2. To help provide students with holistic formation through values formation and personality development seminars.
3. To help teachers, parents and other members of the community in their task of providing quality education to students
4. To help improve school facilities.

TSINELAS is composed of students, teachers, social workers and professionals sharing a passion to be of service to others.

SEC REGISTRATION

TSINELAS was formed in October 2003 and was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in February 2004 under Registration No. CN200425206. It is also registered with the Bureau of Internal Revenue. It links with other groups that are into similar advocacy and operates alongside local government units and the Department of Education.

WHY “TSINELAS”?

A pair of slippers is a fitting symbol of what the organization aims to do: to provide comfort to children in need and ensure that their right to education is respected.

I am Facebook addict. I won’t deny that. I can’t exactly recall when I signed up for Facebook but I think it’s more than 2 years. Give or take, I must have signed-up way back in 2006. Again, I am not sure okay!?

You see, lately I have been too engrossed updating my statuses on all social networking sites, making sure all my followers know what I’m thinking and doing at the moment. LOL – as if I have followers. Stalkers maybe. A few weeks ago, it hit me – my life has been too transparent online and everybody, I quote “everybody”, knows what I’m doing and that’s where my Facebook Disaster came in.

I need not have to blog what really happened but let me point out some of the scenarios people like I am might reconsider before updating their status messages.

(Note: For  the purpose entertainment, (LOL) names are fictional)

OversTransparency – Dhonald called-in sick and spent the day daydreaming on a nearby beach resort while updating his Facebook Status. The next day, his supervisor confronted him with his status message “Enjoying the sun and the beach!” as evidence that he wasn’t really ill. It caused him embarassment and a reprimand in front of his colleagues.

How not to be Overtransparent? – With Facebook’s feature of suggesting friends – it’s uncommon for most to not to have accepted or added ‘as a friend’ their colleagues – especially their bosses. For Dhonald’s case, he can actually change that. With Facebook’s Friend Lists (a new feature in Facebook), Dhonald can organize his Facebook Friends into Lists and designate each group to different levels of access into his Facebook information. Once he has organized all of his friends into lists he can then specify how much of his information can be seen by each his Friend List. To do this, he just have to edit and customize his Facebook Privacy Settings.

Your Full Physical Street Address – Jhona recently broke up with her long time boyfriend, moved away to another city and got a new job. After a few months of communication blackout her ex-boyfriend showed up at her front door asking for a second chance. When she asked how he’d find her his reply was – Facebook Profile.

How to be invisible to some? – Just like Dhonald’s case, Jhona wasn’t able to fully control to who her information is accessible. Jhona has the option to put her address and profile information in private. The controls are still located in one’s Privacy Settings under the Profile option. On Jhona’s profile option, she can find items in her profile that she can turn on and off to each of her Friend Lists.

Your very own Stalker – Jhenny is scared over wall posts being left by someone she mistakenly added as a friend. Jenny don’t like to delete and create a new Facebook account but she wants to remove her stalker from seeing her information, wall posts, statuses, and the likes however she also wants to have her account discoverable only to the people she allows.

How not to be stalked? – Just like Dhonald and Jhona’s situation, she can add her possible stalker to a Limited Profile List. She can even remove or block her stalker – all she has to do is go to her stalker’s profile and click on the link – Remove from Friends option. Now if the stalker insists in adding Jenny again, this time she can block the stalker altogether by typing his/her name in the search box on the privacy page and click on Block Person next to her stalker’s name.

Your Compromising Photos – Cheryl was in a party last weekend. She was already tipsy while posing for a friend’s DSLR. After a couple of days she found out the photos were uploaded and got tagged on several photos. She hated the photos.

How not to be compromised? – Everybody knows we can’t delete someone else’s uploaded photos. You can only do this by asking the person who uploaded them. It’s very simple not to have your compromising photos show on your “View Photos of Me.” All Cheryl has to do is to find the photos she hates and click on the remove tag next to her name. It’s that simple.

Oh well, I could go on and on but I guess my point is clear – we have to be really careful before clicking on the Update link. Believe me.

Though I may not have been very visible on the web for the past few weeks or say months but I’ve managed stumble upon new and interesting blogs.

2. Letsgosago.net – This blog has made a lot buzz because of Sago’s cuteness. This blog has also made an influence to my decision in venturing into Travel Blogging. This blog documents Sago’s travel and food adventure’s.
3. Batang Laktwatsero - This is another travel and adventure blog which documents Batangyagit’s experiences. Though I know Winston for quite sometime now but this has nothing to do with me voting for his Travel Blog – Content is King. You know what I mean.
4. CebuBloggers.com – It was last year when bloggers from Cebu convened and decided to put a blog which promotes Cebu and its richness into the world. I am part of that advocacy.
5. FocalGlass.Blogspot.com – Owned and maintained by an active Cebu Bloggers Society member.
6. RP Elections 2010 (The Election Watchblog) – Though I’ve already relinquished my right to suffrage, this blog is all but unique. It details news and opinions surrounding the Philippines’ 2010 Elections.
7. FlairCandy.com – Her blog just simply amazes me. Her shots are amazing. She’s beautiful too.
8. AbsoluteCousins.com – I am not that close to my cousins. So, it is an amazing feat  that this gang made it possible to recount their individual experiences on one blog.
9. VideoChops.com – This is another of Coy’s avenue to Vlogging. I’m pretty sure this vlog will be equally awesome, if not better, with his cool vlog – thisiscoy.net.
10. BryanKarl.net – This is another blog one of friends over at Cebu Bloggers Society. Though I’ve met him just recently his presence in the blogosphere undoutedly undeniable.

I’ve been through a full year of bullies from both friends and the so-called friends telling me how loser I am to quit smoking. I got so used to these bullies that I am numb of being called a loser. Only a few of them knew the reason why I quit and I’m not about to tell the entire world. There are things better kept unsaid.

On a serious note, a lot of things happened to me this past 365 days. I endured a lot of pains, trials, happiness, fun and even betrayals. It was an enlightening year. Now, I’m a completely different person. Life has molded me into a unique individual and now I am looking forward to what life has to offer. Today is also another milestone as I am about to step out of my comfort zones. I will no longer be that person who always calculates the risk before taking an action. But that does not entail that I will be reckless as hell. I know this’ll an adventure and I am up for it.

To my friends and my so-called friends, cheers to us all! It was fun having you around and I am looking forward to the next few years we might be spending.

Well, this’ll just be quick post as I am about to sleep and recharge for tonight’s party. I need celebrate a year’s worth of victory.
